Chocolate Hazelnut Mousse

A rich, creamy chocolate hazelnut mousse paired with the fresh fruity flavors in a glass of Red Moscato wine is an elegant dessert I am proud to serve anytime of year, but especially during the holidays. It never fails to impress, and no one will ever know how incredibly easy it is to make!

It’s hard to believe 2015 is coming to an end, but with Thanksgiving behind us and Christmas knocking on the door, there is no denying it! 'Tis the season for holiday entertaining! I can’t be the only one a little freaked out by that! The holidays sneaked up on me like those pesky gray hairs that seemingly appear out of nowhere! I don’t know how these things happen, but I do know it’s time to make a list or two! My list starts with ‘Make hair appt asap!’ and is quickly followed by all the menus I have to plan.

My sister and her whole crew will be visiting us in FL this year, and she already told me they are expecting some good eats! No pressure, right?! I’m actually very excited to start planning and can’t wait to have everyone together around the dinner table. It’s not often we get to spend time together, so this is going to be special indeed!

Special occasions such as this call for special desserts! My easy Chocolate Hazelnut Mousse is a decadent dessert perfect for celebrating this special time of year. Not only is it rich, creamy, nutty, and chocolaty delicious, but it is so easy to make too! Seriously, this dessert is a simple go-to recipe that is sure to please! With just 4 ingredients and no-bake, I can whip this up in less than 10 minutes! After spooning it into individual serving dishes, I just pop them in the fridge for at least 20 minutes before serving. I like to make this dessert up a day ahead and have it ready and waiting. It is a great time saver that allows me more time with my family and friends. I like that!

You know what else I like? Pairing my Chocolate Hazelnut Mousse with a dessert wine. I recommend a Red Moscato, but your favorite dessert wine should be a winner with this creamy, chocolaty dessert.

Chocolate Hazelnut Mousse

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup heavy cream, chilled
  • 3/4 cup chocolate hazelnut spread (I used Nutella)
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • pinch of kosher salt

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk 1/2 cup chilled heavy cream using an electric mixer on high speed with a whisk attachment until stiff peaks form. With my mixer this only takes about a minute or two, but keep in mind that time will vary depending on the speed of your mixer. Set aside until ready to use.
  2. In another mixing bowl, combine 3/4 cup chocolate hazelnut spread with 1/4 cup sour cream, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, and a pinch of kosher salt. Mix until well blended and uniform in color. Give it a taste and add more salt as needed.
  3. Fold the whipped cream mixture into the chocolate hazelnut mixture until combined with no steaks of white.
  4. Spoon into 4 serving cups, cover, and refrigerate at least 20 minutes. I like to make these a day before I want to serve them for best results. Garnish with festive Christmas bark or whipped cream and crushed hazelnuts. Enjoy!
Yield: 4 Servings
Prep Time: 10 mins.
Total time: 10 mins.

    1. Yes, and as much as I love Nutella, the sour cream does help to tone it down a bit and balance the flavors. Thanks so much for stopping by, Katie! Happy Holidays!
