Mango Jalapeno Salsa with Avocado

With just a few simple ingredients, this Mango Jalapeno Salsa with Avocado is truly easy to make! Homemade Mango Salsa is a little bit sweet, a little bit spicy, and a whole lot tasty!

I love the unique flavor of the mango combined with the heat of jalapeno pepper with hints of citrus from lime and cilantro, as well as the buttery texture of the creamy avocados. Fruit salsa is very versatile too! It isn't just for chips...

Ingredients needed to make Fresh Mango Salsa Recipe

  • Fresh Mangoes - look for ripe mangoes that are plump, round and have a slight give when you gently press on the mango. Ripe mangoes are not hard or mushy. Be sure you use a properly ripe mango for best flavor.
  • Red bell pepper - crunchy red bell peppers add a mild, sweet flavor and rich red color to homemade salsas.
  • Red onion - zingy red onion provides mild flavor that is perfect for this mango salsa recipe
  • Fresh cilantro - up you salsa game with zesty cilantro! Cilantro has a slightly peppery citrus flavor that takes this mango salsa over the top
  • Jalapeno pepper - finely diced jalapeno pepper is the perfect compliment to the sweetness of the mango for a slightly spicy mango salsa. I love a sweet and spicy salsa!
  • Lime juice - I recommend using freshly squeezed juice from a tangy lime. I have used lemon juice in a pinch
  • Haas avocado - look for an avocado that yields slightly to firm gentle pressure. It should not be mushy.

How to Make Mango Jalapeno Salsa

  1. Use a cutting board and prep all the ingredients.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine diced sweet mangoes, red bell pepper, red onion, cilantro, jalapeno, and the juice of 1/2 a lime.
  3. Gently toss ingredients together and give it a taste. Add salt & pepper to your liking.
  4. Cover tightly and refrigerate until ready to use.
GREAT TIP: Add freshly diced avocado right before serving.

How to Store Leftover Salsa

  • Store Mango Salsa up to two days in an airtight container in your refrigerator. Even in a sealed container the mangoes will get soft quickly, so plan to use it up within 2 days.
  • Before storing, remove any avocado pieces that might be leftover. Avocado does not save well.
  • Enjoy leftover mango salsa with chips, add it to coconut rice, or use it as a topping on salad like my Mango Avocado Shrimp Salad. Get creative!

Mango Jalapeno Salsa with Avocado

This easy mango jalapeno salsa with avocado only has 6 ingredients and takes just 10 minutes to make. Fresh mango salsa pairs deliciously with fish, chicken, and pork.
Prep time: 10 MinTotal time: 10 Min

Ingredients

  • 1 Mango, peeled, seeded, and diced (about 1 heaping cupful)
  • 1/2 red bell pepper, diced
  • 2 tablespoons minced red onion
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1 jalapeno, seeded and minced
  • juice from 1/2 a lime
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 Haas avocado, diced (see note section)
  • Green onion (optional topping)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine diced mango, 1/2 diced red pepper, 2 tablespoons minced red onion, 1 tablespoon chopped fresh cilantro, minced jalapeno, and the juice of 1/2 a lime.
  2. Gently toss ingredients together and give it a taste. Now add a pinch of salt and taste it again. Notice how just a little salt enhances the flavor. Add more salt if needed, tasting after each addition.
  3. Add a small pinch of pepper and give it a taste. Refrigerate until ready to use.
  4. Add freshly diced avocado right before serving.

Notes:

  1. Add more salt if needed, tasting after each addition. Be careful not to add too much. The more you taste after each addition you will get better at knowing just how much salt is needed. Sometimes you'll put too much, but it's all part of the learning experience.
  2. It is best if you can make this mango jalapeno salsa early in the day as the flavors will enhance after spending some time together in the refrigerator.
  3. Dice the avocado when ready to serve the salsa. If you are sure you'll be finishing the salsa in one setting you can go ahead and toss the avocado in with the other salsa ingredients right before serving. Otherwise, I suggest serving the avocado on the side as it will turn brown and unappetizing.

  1. When I was little, I did not like mangos either. Now I love them. Luckily my daughter has taken to them early. This salsa would be perfect on a hot day.
